Improve QuickBooks Slow Performance

Regarding performance especially in a multi-user environment- starting last year in 2006 on the product information screen (Hit F2 to get that screen) you have a DB file fragments with a number beside it. This number needs to stay below 50-70...anything over this can cause a slow down in performance.

The remedy to this situation if your DB file fragments gets larger than this is to create a portable company file and then restore it (obviously if you do this and rename it - get everyone working on the same file again.) Check your DB file fragments again; it should be down around 5 or so depending on file size.

After you have created and restored the company file - DB fragments down to 5 and everyone can access the file with a fair amount of speed again.

What if it happens again? You were doing fine and then in a week the DB fragments are back at 185. What causes DB file fragments grow back quickly? It is simple, you must defrag your hard drive. If the hard drive was fragmented pretty bad this could take a great deal of time. Once it is defragged then re-check the DB file fragments it should be back down to 5 or so.
